Role: Motion Graphics Designer | Programs: Adobe After Effects/Figma

Project Overview:

The digital billboard project aimed to create a visually stunning and engaging entrance display for the company summit at Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach. This "wow" moment was designed to impress attendees upon arrival in the lobby. The creative requirements stipulated that the billboard could not feature the logo by itself, but could include taglines and the company URL (ritual.com). Additionally, the design had to be reviewed and approved by the city.

Creative Requirements:

Mandatory Elements: Taglines and company URL (ritual.com). The logo could not appear alone.

Approval: Required approval by the city.

Nice to Haves: Could include still images or video, and needed to be delivered 30 days before the event or live date.

Role and Responsibilities:

As the Motion Graphic Designer, I was responsible for designing and animating the graphics for the billboard. My tasks included collaborating with the creative team, conducting research, and testing to ensure the visibility of text and graphics from all angles onsite.

Challenges Faced:

One significant challenge was obtaining city approval for the billboard designs by a specific deadline. Additionally, with some team members taking time off just before the summit, I had a tight schedule to finalize the project and secure approval from all stakeholders on time.

Approach:

I utilized Figma and After Effects to design and animate the graphics, including a capsule fall transition. The process involved:

Conducting thorough research on city guidelines and visibility standards.

Collaborating closely with the creative team to align on the vision and ensure all requirements were met.

Testing the designs onsite to guarantee optimal visibility and impact from various angles.

Solution:

The final solution was a dynamic and visually appealing digital billboard featuring animated graphics that captivated attendees. The designs included personalized messages for employees, enhancing their recognition and spreading brand awareness. The capsule fall transition added a unique and engaging element to the display.

Impact:

The project had a significant positive impact:

Employee Recognition: The personalized messages made employees feel valued and appreciated.

Brand Awareness: The creative and engaging billboard helped spread brand awareness effectively.

Cost Savings: By not using external vendors and completing the project ahead of schedule, we achieved considerable cost savings.

Social Media Buzz: The billboard became one of the most talked-about creative projects of the summit, with attendees sharing it on social media, further enhancing the company's visibility and engagement.

Lessons Learned:

Effective time management and proactive planning are crucial, especially when working with tight deadlines and approval processes.

Collaboration and clear communication with team members and stakeholders are key to ensuring project success.

Testing designs in the actual environment can significantly improve the final output, ensuring that all visual elements are impactful and clear from various perspectives.
